Memorial Day Weekend

Wow, why can't all weekends be three days long? It is amazing what a few days in the mountains can do for your sanity.

We spent the weekend at Camp David with our friends Stephen, Sarah and Rex Gardner. It was decided somewhat last minute and we were all so glad we were able to get together and despite the rain have a great time together. The puppies swam and chased balls, the boys pretended to fish, and Sarah and I got extra naps in!

On Saturday we woke up late and I grabbed a cup of coffee to join Sarah and Ben on the dock. Naturally as soon as I sat down in my chair it happened to be on the rotten spot and I got thrown forward and pitched over the edge. Somehow I managed to save myself and the baby from tumbling into the depths below (debatable if falling in would have hurt less than my Texas size bruise). It must have been my motherly instinct because I have not worked out since March and have zero arm muscles but somehow managed to hold myself up and protect my stomach. Needless to say I did not spend any more time on the dock. :)

After breakfast at The Grill we headed to Dupont Forest to see Hooker and Triple Falls. The last time we were there was three years ago right after Ben proposed. It has become somewhat of a special spot now and I really look forward to the first time we are there with our little one. Every day it seems like we are getting closer and we cannot wait to be a family. It is definitely going to be an adjustment when it is not just the two of us and our animeaux, but I think it is going to be well worth it.

Sunday we had some rain but that made sleeping in all the better. Sarah made delicious cinnamon buns and the boys tried to fish again hoping the rain would stir up the pond. Around lunch time we headed towards Asheville to the Biltmore Estate. I am the only one to have visited before but I'm pretty sure the last time I was there was about 10 years ago so it was about time. They have opened up more rooms and the prestigious Louis XV guest suite. Everyone was very impressed and we had a lovely day. The weather held out long enough for us to visit the gardens and sit in the courtyard for a while. All in all it was a great trip and made Ben and I realize how much we have missed the mountains. Definitely see us being back soon!
