Abney's First Thanksgiving

For her first Thanksgiving we decided to stay at our house. I was unsure what we would be up to as far as traveling and I am glad we made the decision to stay home. Holidays are enough running around that it was comforting to somewhat stick to our familiar routine.
The even better part about staying home was that Grandma Buerger took over the cooking responsibility. She made a wonderful feast of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, the works! She even took the roasting pan we were given as a wedding gift nearly three years ago out of the box. I guess it needed to be broken in sooner or later.
Abney served as little helper in the form of giving love and affection but not so much in the kitchen. What will it be like when she is able to run around in her own apron and help prepare the feast? What will her voice sound like? Will she like onions or despise them like I do? One thing is for sure, she has taken a keen liking to her Grandma as you can see from the picture below.
Abney also got to meet her Great-Grandma Ruth! We captured this great four generation on the Heiberg/Buerger side shot and Nana and I are going to get the Abney side this weekend with Great-Grandmother Peaches. What a lucky girl to be surrounded by so much love!It is such a blessing to have our wonderful family to join us for the holidays and to constantly support us with their love. This holiday certainly helped to remind us how thankful we are and even more now that we have our baby girl. She may have kept me super busy with her demanding feeding schedule, but there is honestly no place I would rather be than by her side. As I write this we are in my bed, me with the laptop and Abney swaddled in pink sound asleep by my side. Charlie is of course swaddled in his own way under Ben's sweater at the foot of the bed. :) These quiet moments are the ones I cherish most and look forward to holding onto as they will not last forever.
She is already one month old and according to our scale is over 9 lbs and growing! We will confirm tomorrow at the doctor but I can hardly believe how big she has gotten. She has eyelashes now, makes cooing noises, and can hold herself up incredibly well. Before we know it she will be off and running around the house. Honestly, before we know it she will be sixteen and driving. Yep, want to cherish these little moments while I can. While she is still small enough to snuggle on my chest and be relaxed by my beating heart. While she still is fascinated by the sound of my voice and the shape of my face. While she is still just a little pod that I can swaddle in pink and lay next to on my bed.
